A few years ago Friends of Calligraphy members were asked to submit a piece, incorporating calligraphy and flowers, to the South San Francisco Art show. I created this 3 dimensional piece using recycled and repurposed materials. The background is a fabric left over from an Ikea curtain. The stems are made from old yarn, cord, torn Japanese papers and embroidery. The buds are from an old T shirt and embroidery. The flower from Japanese papers, organza and chiffon with embroidery. Almost everything I used I found at SCRAP
www.scrap-sf.org . The calligraphy, something I wrote for the piece, was made with a gold gel pen. The pewter frame came from many days spent at the Sunday flea markets in Montevideo Uruguay. I was told they were quite popular during the first part of the 1900's and I have quite a collection of them.
