Medieval Illuminations... diapering

Geometric backgrounds are called diapering from the word describing a type of woven cloth. Here are some of the samples I painted. Most are of gouache, Fintec metallics on Arches text wove with my favorite brush. given to me by a dear friend, kolinsky sable #2.

 

Illuminated Manuscripts

 It has been a year of studying Illuminations of old manuscripts with teacher Risa Gettler through UC Riverside. I learned a lot about using gouache, what was painted and how the illuminations were made in century's long ago. 2024 was the year I studied.  Here are some of my pieces from the first session.

Letterform Archive -2023. Cut It Out workshop...letters without nibs

Cut It Out workshop...letters without nibs. We learned to look at letters as forms and make letters with squares of black paper...nips and tucks, to be recognized as letterforms. Lots of creativity in the class of 16.

Letters California Style Calligraphy Conference 2023

Set in Pomona College at the Kellogg center, over 120 people attended this wonderful conference. I was asked to teach my Botanical Printing class for the 3.5 days. I had a fantastic group of ladies and here are some of the outcomes.
